Asian Contemporary Art Week 2014 (ACAW 2014) San Francisco presents a series of presentation-conversations by artists, writers, critics, and translators that seek to investigate, in the special context of Asia, how the role of language (both literally and metaphorically), notions and issues of translations and mistranslations, and their philosophies interact with each other in art and cultural productions.
Three topical threads organize these presentation-conversations: English as a lingua franca and the notion and dilemma of International Art English (IAE) manifested through today’s art writing and criticism; the (mis)translation of archives and the global-local histories; the democratic potential of speech, and the relationship between visual and textual languages in art practices.
